Wedding Theme Predictions for 2022
One of the things we’ve loved about 2021 has been the birth of new wedding themes. Most of these themes are a switch on already existing themes to accommodate the pandemic. Far from sad, the results have been outstanding! So much that we’re sure they’ve come to stay.
2021 has been all about being unapologetically yourselves, and we’ve loved it here at Uplanit. Expressing your individuality and personalizing your wedding will always be in style. It’s one of the best ways to host a memorable wedding.
If you are having your wedding in 2022, you should plan for the same. When it comes to weddings nowadays, couples are focusing less and less on following traditions. Plus, “normal” seems to have gotten lost along the way and no one knows what “normal” is anymore.

So here are our wedding theme predictions for 2022. They include some trusted and familiar themes with new twists and some brand-new additions. One thing is, however, sure; you’ll have a lovely time at your wedding, no matter which you choose to use for that day.
· A Bridgerton Themed Affair
If you haven’t seen this yet, then put it on your list. Bridgerton is a Netflix series that entertained us at the height of the pandemic, and we can’t complain. The aesthetics are ethereal, so we understand why couples want to replicate it.
The romantic regency setting with dramatic flourishes is hard to resist. This is one theme we’ll certainly see a lot of in 2022, as Season 2 will be coming out then. Besides, who wouldn’t love a chance to include grand ballrooms, chandeliers, and historical architecture at their wedding!
· Garden Weddings with A Twist
Garden weddings and close alternatives like backyard weddings have been on the rise. The outdoor spaces with beautiful flowers have been an attraction due to the pandemic. So, couples have loved working with this theme for 2021.
However, as the year draws to a close, we’ve discovered a lovely twist that will accompany this theme into the new year. More and more couples are finding ways to bring the indoors outside alongside this theme.
This means that we’re seeing elegant garden venues spotting tents, sofas, and backyard settings. Picture settings that flow from indoors onto patios, and you’ll get what we mean. They are homely, cosy, and unique. They also do wonders for the wedding atmosphere.
· Minimalist Weddings
2020 and 2021 saw an increase in micro weddings and changes to the way couples host celebrations. Despite the decrease in guests’ numbers in some places, some of the details on this trend have stayed. For example, many couples now go for a smaller cake with more details for their cake cutting.
This has kissed goodbye the days of five-tiered cakes towering over the couple as they cut it. Some couples either order mini cakes for guests or have another cake to serve guests. Micro weddings of 50 guests and below are perfectly suited to a smaller cake with intricate details.
Cakes aren’t the only aspect of weddings minimalism has impacted and will continue to affect in 2022. We’re seeing smaller bouquets and more of the less-is-more approach for flower arrangements too. People are living a bit more “In-The-Moment” now, and it’s featuring in weddings too.
· Vintage Themed Weddings
Vintage-themed weddings are a classic that will always be in style. So we expect to see this theme fully represented in 2022. This might be another nod the Bridgerton series is bringing forth in everyone.
So, expect to see romantic reds, smoky greys, and midnight blacks paired with brass and mirrored finishes. We’ll also see lots of dramatic greenery, historical venues with impressive architecture, and gilded tableware.
· Destination Themed Wedding with A Twist
With the Omicron variant and others like it showing up, travel will still be a bit muted for now. As a result, destination weddings will be out of the running for many couples. Or so many have thought, but they’re wrong! Say hello to the destination wedding theme with a twist.
In this theme, couples make a destination out of wherever they are. For example, if the plan was to go to Italy, then the wedding features authentic Italian details. Guests will be introduced to an immersive experience featuring décor, entertainment, and food.
2022 will see a bit of a spill-over from 2021 wedding themes as we continue to await a groundbreaking solution to this pandemic. In the meantime, we should all continue to apply the important lessons this period has taught us all. Any thoughts on some themes we might see in 2022?
