Beach weddings are relaxed, fun and memorable. Saying your vows with your toes in the sand overlooking the sea is a one-of-a-kind experience? To get to this part, however, you’ll need to do some planning.

That’s why we’ve set up Uplanit, by the way, for hassle-free planning. Our expertise is in events’ (large and small) planning, and we’d love to help. There are some key things that you must know when planning a beach wedding in the UK. Here are eight tips on planning a beach wedding to keep in mind.

The Location

Where you choose to have your beach wedding in the UK matters a lot. In Scotland, couples can legally get married right on the beach itself. In other parts of the UK, things are slightly different.

You can only legally get married on the beach in a licensed venue with a roof on the beach itself in England, Northern Ireland, and Wales. Other than that, the UK has some of the most stunning beaches and coastline in the world.

If a beach-based licensed venue with a roof is proving elusive, you could opt to have your legal ceremony elsewhere and then celebrate with your loved ones on the beach.

The Weather

When it comes to beach weddings in the UK, the weather could prove a little bit shaky. So think of your wedding like all other outdoor weddings. Set up a Plan B and make alternative plans where possible.

Also, there’s a chance that if you wait for just a little while, the sun will come out again. So, if your wedding day starts with a drizzle, don’t panic. Marquees are also excellent for weather protection. You will be glad to have some shelter if it rains and it can easily be taken down after your wedding.

The key thing with beach wedding attire is comfort. If a particular attire is important to you but is limiting, then consider a dress change as it may be hot and hard to walk on the sand. A lighter dress would also look fabulous blowing in the sea breeze.

Hair accessories should fit in with your overall theme and comfort should be at the forefront. It might be too breezy for a wedding veil, instead, consider a flower crown. This would add to the beauty of your event and fits right in with a beach wedding theme. For your wedding hair, it is vital to take into consideration the breezy nature of the beaches. While an updo might be good and simple, you should go with any style that you want. A wind-swept hair would look just as good as any other hair. It is your wedding, your way.

Try keeping things simple for a beach wedding ceremony. Fabrics, footwear and other accessories should be light and comfortable. The result? A gorgeous beach wedding with relaxed vibes where everyone can celebrate to their heart’s content.

Decor

There is not much that you can add to a stunning backdrop of the sea. So, when it comes to your beach wedding décor, keep things simple. Choose a harmonious colour palette that blends with the landscape for the best effect. You can then add a pop of colour in different places so the theme reflects you and your partner.

Shop Local

Working with professionals is an excellent idea for your wedding. It’s what we do here at Uplanit. For your beach wedding, try sticking to experienced and recommended local suppliers where possible.

A florist who knows what blossoms will keep and how to position them strategically is a good example. Local businesses are likely to understand the beach area much better and offer tips or services that are perfect for your day.

Applicable Rules and Regulations

This is important, especially if you’re choosing to wed at a public beach. Make sure you find out what restrictions exist and if they apply to you. For example, some beaches have a limit on how loud you can play music.

Prepare Your Guests

If your ceremony is taking place on the sand, let your loved ones know. You could include some pointers concerning fashion and footwear tips on your wedding invite. Welcome bags containing insect repellents, sunscreen and a personalized fan would also be greatly appreciated.

Watch Out for The Wind

With your beach wedding, there’s a high chance that things will get blown away. So, consider using pebbles, shells, ribbons and other cute things to hold them down if you are doing everything yourself.

Some beach venues have specific seated areas for weddings but if your chosen location does not have such a facility, wooden benches are an excellent option for withstanding the sea breeze. Your bouquet/confetti toss might not also go exactly as planned, so keep that in mind.

Having a beach wedding in the UK can be a fantastic experience. All you have to do is plan right and be very flexible. Have you planned or attended a beach wedding here before? Let us know, we’d love to hear about some exciting things that happened, but till then, see you next week!
