2023 is here, and we’re excited to see what the year brings. We’re also back with our trend predictions for 2023 weddings. When planning a celebration, incorporating recent trends is one of the ways to make your event memorable and fun.

As an event planning platform, we love to share these trends with couples planning their wedding. Uplanit is committed to helping couples plan a celebration they’ll remember with smiles.

So, what are the expected wedding trends of 2023? Well, experts think we’ll see more bold colours this year. Bigger parties will also be the order of the day, and couples will be more extra in their wedding fashion choices. Check out the breakdown on these and more trends below.

Midday Celebrations

After parties are a fun and spontaneous part of weddings that have become popular recently. However, many weddings start early in the morning and include a cocktail hour and evening reception. Going for an after party after that is too much for many guests.

Midday celebrations make the idea of an after party much, much better. With so much time to rest earlier, guests will be ready to celebrate and party all night long, right from your ceremony. Your after party will be a lot more energetic and fun.

Boisterous Welcome Parties

Destination weddings have always been trendy, and so have the welcome party that comes with them. However, for 2023, we can expect to see wilder and more exciting welcome parties. In fact, many couples will be planning a welcome day experience for their guests.

Picture a welcome that starts with a tour or beach soccer game, depending on your destination. This then leads to a barbeque night out under the stars and a party. We love this idea because it can be a great icebreaker for the couple and their guests, leading to a more fun wedding celebration.

Reserved Ceremonies

Many couples in 2023 will be going for a private and intimate wedding ceremony. We understand the sentiment. Having to exchange vows in front of hundreds of guests can be anxiety-inducing for many.

So, couples are going for reserved wedding ceremonies and leaving the big parties for their reception. A private ceremony can help your brace yourself and prepare for the bigger celebration later. Some couples who can’t manage this also use a First Look to achieve the same effect.

Sustainable Weddings

Did you catch the recent drama on Twitter with Greta Thunberg, the climate activist? People worldwide are paying more attention to sustainability; we’ll see this in weddings this year. Green weddings can still be fun and interesting.

Bold Colours

Do you know that Pantone’s colour for 2023 is viva magenta 18–750? This bold and vibrant colour looks fabulous when mixed with other bright colours. We can’t wait to see what couples do with these colours in their illustrations, décor, and fashion.

Groom’s Fashion

In the spirit of bolder colours, groom’s wear will be more adventurous this year. We’ll see a lot of coloured suits and velvet blazers this year. Experts are also noting the rise in the use of patterned shirts and double-breasted jackets.

Wedding Dress

2023 will see a mix of brides going back to the traditional white wedding dress and trying new colours. Metallic wedding dresses, separates, and bridal suits will also be popular. In general, brides will be showcasing their personalities a lot more when it comes to bridal fashion.

Mismatched Bridal Party

In the spirit of the bright and bold colours, brides will be going for the mismatched idea this year. If you use viva magenta, colours like yellow and green can offset it nicely. You can also go for different designs for your bridesmaid dresses instead of just colours.

Statement Aisles

If your wedding venue has a long aisle, you should adopt this trend for your celebration. This kind of aisle sets the tone for elegant designs and decoration. You can also add the heartfelt trend of walking halfway down the aisle solo before being greeted and escorted by your mum, dad, or both.

Streamers and Drapes

Streamers and drapes are great décor ideas for aisles and ceilings. You can use these in metallic tones to add drama to your day and pair them with lights and foliage. Drapes will bring elegance to your event, and you can also include florals to make your ceilings more dramatic.

Personalized and Extra Cakes

Couples are making a return to boisterous wedding cakes for their celebrations as wedding numbers increase. The options for customisations are also numerous, and so we’re also seeing over-the-top wedding cake toppers. Colourful buttercream with beautiful designs and cherries? Sign us up!

Grazing Boards and Charcuterie

Guests love those over-the-top displays of grazing boards and charcuterie at weddings. We love them too. They look great when incorporated into your tables-cape designs at cocktail hour or your wedding reception.

In Conclusion

We’re excited to see what trends 2023 brings and hope that you are too. Many of the trends for 2023 will be a continuation from 2022, but others will be new, refreshing, and fun. Can you think of any new trends we might see in weddings this year? We’d love to hear it.
