5 Ways Your Pet Can Attend Your Wedding!
‘Capturing special memories is precious, but capturing them with your pets is even more precious!’
When it comes to your wedding planning, have you ever considered inviting your pet? If you have, you might be wondering “Who will look after them? Pick up after them?”. You might even be wondering if your guests will like the idea of animals at your wedding — what if someone is allergic? Well, we’re here today to give you some advice and help you come to a decision!
- Is your venue pet-friendly?
Prior to booking your venue, further research may be required with regards to the attendance of pets. There are venues out there that don’t agree with having pets inside/outside their venue as it could cause certain issues, which is understandable. But there are a lot of venues becoming pet-friendly, which is great! If you’ve already booked and are thinking about your pet coming along, be sure to check with your venue and see if they would allow it.
If you have found the perfect venue that’s pet friendly, congrats! If not, don’t panic — here are a few pet-friendly venues that are based in the North East:

2. Can your pet handle loud/large groups and new environments?
If your pet is comfortable with large groups/surroundings, you don’t have to worry about this tip. But If you’re unsure, here are some pointers that might help you make the right decision.
Next time you have a guest over, keep an eye on your pet and check their body language. Do they look scared? Anxious? Hyperactive? If you’re unsure about pet language, check out our Pinterest board — we’ve provided plenty of images to help you recognise different body language indicators your pet may be using.
What about new environments? Animals all react differently to new things, especially new smells. It can be quite intimidating for them, so we recommend taking your pet to your venue multiple times before the date of your big day. That way they can become accustomed to the scents in the air and where they can go in an emergency; for example if they’re overwhelmed or stressed.
3. Inform your guests — especially those with allergies!
It’s always best to inform your guest in advance that animals are attending the wedding. Make sure to include this information in the invitation — big, bold, clear, and include contact details. That way, the guest can decide whether to attend or not, depending on how significant their allergies are. If a guest has a mild allergy, they could always plan in advance, it’s always best to double-check with your guest’s.
4. Pet-sitter?
Now, on your big day, do you want to keep an eye on your pet the whole time? Pick up after them, feed them, water them, make sure they’re not stressed? A wedding is a busy day in itself, so if you feel you can’t look after your pet but still want them there, we’d recommend looking into pet-sitters or asking one of your guests to dedicate their time to keeping an eye on your furry friend. You’ll have the freedom to fully embrace your special day with all of your loved ones involved, without worrying about your pet’s needs, or even finishing the cake before you catch them!
5. Family photographs!
Capturing special memories is precious, but capturing them with your pets is much better! Have you thought about dressing up your pet? Provided they’re comfortable with it of course. How about a suit? Or a flower garland? Make sure you have trial fittings with them so that they aren’t uncomfortable on the wedding day, especially since they’re likely to wear it for a long while!
There are loads of different ways you can take photographs with your furry friend, but if you’re unsure then your photographer can guide you to the perfect photograph — we provide lots of different poses (even hilarious ones) that can help you get ready on your big day! Check out our Pinterest board here.
So, have you come to a decision? Fear not, we know it’s a big one! Whatever you decide, we know it’ll be amazing.
