5 Things to Do with Your Family After Christmas
After the excitement, happy moments, music and gifts unwrapped, the excitement dims a little bit. At least your kids don’t want it to (parents sometimes want to take a little break).
For many families, there is usually a lull after the Christmas celebrations. As a brand involved with event planning here at Uplanit, we understand how it could be. After the excitement, happy moments, music and gifts unwrapped, the excitement dims a little bit. At least your kids don’t want it to (parents sometimes want to take a little break).
The little ones are, however, a different case. They could start getting antsy. Once you hear the “B” word (bored), you know it’s only going downhill from there. That’s when not hearing from your kids for five minutes ends in discovering a mischievousness that could be very costly!
So, how do you avoid being one of those parents who goes viral on the internet for lamenting about kids this holiday? We have some great ideas. Here are five things to do with your family after Christmas. They’ll keep everyone busy and help with bonding too.
Go on An Adventure
Yes, we know you might have been to the grandparent’s already for Christmas. Nothing says you can’t have the same kind of fun after Christmas. Rather than plan a big bank-breaking trip to Disney World, you could have a staycation.
That’s not to say you should cancel your already planned trip, however. You can still do both.
For your staycation, you can spend time exploring a neighbouring city. You could also go to a different region for some unexpected adventure.
As a plus, you can be sure your child’s “What I did during the holidays” essay will not lack for activities.
Try Volunteering
You’ll feel good about this activity, and so will your kids. Volunteering works at any time of the year but is even more special during the holidays. Your kids will have more time to be involved and be more immersed as a result.
So, go ahead and look up some great groups you could join, like the Salvation Army. You could even adopt a less privileged family to gift at New Year’s. Your kids will learn a good lesson on sharing and giving with this one.
Have Fun with Winter Sports
Winter sports are great at this time of the year. You could go ice skating, sledging, skiing and snow tubing with family. It’s a great way to get your kids outdoors during the break and make use of all that excess energy.
Most indoor and outdoor rinks will still be open and functional, so you’ll have a good time too. Don’t forget to pack some hot chocolate and bundle everyone up properly.
Organise All Those Photos
It’s time to get to all those photos you’ve been piling up throughout the year. You can make a fun family activity out of it too. All those fun family pictures of the places you visited and loved will come in handy in future. Your kids will also love a chance to see what they’d been up to over the year.
So, use this period to organize them all, starting from the earliest down to Christmas. Upload the digital ones to your drive or the folder you’ve set up for that. You can also sort through and decide which gets printed or even goes on the family wall.
The rest can go in an online album once you’re done. You’ll find many on sale after Christmas. You can also keep some on an external hard drive as a way to free up space on your computer and phone.
Shopping Time
It might be hectic, but it could be very much worth it, however. Plus, your kids would love a chance to spend all those gift cards and the cash that they might have gotten. After-Christmas is also known for good sales. Companies will be trying to clear off old stock for the year.
So, feel free to head to your favourite stores with your kids. This is the one time when you can avoid ordering online and bond over buying good stuff. Everyone will love being in the spirit of the season.
Planning after Christmas activities for your family might take a bit of creativity, but the results are fun. You and your loved ones will have a great time. Can you think of any other fun after Christmas family activities? Feel free to share it with us! Till then, however, see you next week!
